Every community presents Jesus in their own way. There’s black Jesus, Asian Jesus — and now queer Jesus to heal the damage done in Christ’s name. The queer Christ embodies God’s wildly inclusive love for all.

Nobody knows whether the historical Jesus was attracted to other men. Some groundbreaking scholars do believe that he felt same-sex attractions. Being human, Jesus must have had erotic feelings. Being divine, Christ lives in individuals of every sexual orientation and gender identity.

When they crucified Jesus, they did violence to everyone who has ever dared to be different. Jesus said, “Whatever you do to the least of these, you do unto me.” In that sense, it is entirely appropriate to show a gay Jesus on the cross.

The gay, bisexual, transgender, two-spirit, or same gender loving Jesus is too queer for most Christians, but too Christian for most of the LGBT community. Those who dare to present Christ as queer have been accused of blasphemy. Many have had their work censored or destroyed. Jesus in Love has gathered some of these liberating visions for all to see.
